Description

INT/EXT AMSTERDAM

Bulk waste had been a familiar element of the Amsterdam streetscape, A weekly ritual in which the private life of the city unintentionally becomes public. Between 2019 and 2025, Suyderhoud documented this phenomenon across seventeen neighborhoods. From the objects residents placed outside, he constructed carefully lit interiors on site. The resulting images are poetic and disorienting, but also form a precise urban document, revealing what people owned, used, needed and ultimately let go. within its 80 pages “INT/EXT AMSTERDAM” shows a complete overview of the project. Next to the numerous installations it also shows how the project came to be. Combined with text wrilen by Renée Kapitein and illustrations by Gijs Kast the viewer is shown a new look at the bulk waste of Amsterdam. A story told from A to Z.

Boris Suyderhoud, born in 1991 and based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, is a documentary photographer with a keen focus on exploring the intricate relationship between people and the objects that surround them in their daily lives. His work delves into the significance of cherished possessions, unwanted items, and ofen overlooked everyday objects.
